International Energy Agency, analyzed the possibility of seawater desalination using a concentrating solar power generation in the MENA region Medium
The International Energy Agency (IEA), in order to meet in the MENA a sustainable way to fresh water demand of the region, was analyzed the possibility of seawater desalination using a condensing solar power (CSP). In order to respond to increased demand for water while reducing the use of finite groundwater in the region, it is expected that fresh water produced by desalination process is increased to double in 2.0 years ratio in 00 years. Conventionally, the seawater desalination but power from oil or natural gas power has been utilized, the transition to CSP is expected to be an energy source that does not emit carbon. However, seawater desalination using CSP is at present takes about twice the cost of natural gas, has become an obstacle to large-scale equipment introduced.
